I repeat: subsidy will be mismanaged. What Nigeria needs is a prudent manager of resources, not another round of subsidy payments. Prudent management alone could bring fuel prices down to around N650 per litre without subsidy. Atiku is not talking about figures because he knows his proposed subsidy would only produce a marginal reduction, to about N1,050 per litre, before it gets wiped out by further depreciation of the naira and the same leakages that have always eaten into Nigeria’s subsidy regimes.
What Nigeria needs is a man who has already proven himself in the honest and prudent management of public resources, and that man is Peter Obi. He proved it at great personal sacrifice as a two-term Governor of Anambra State.
Imagine governing a state for eight years without allocating a single inch of land to yourself, while personally signing off on thousands of land allocations for others. Imagine leaving office with no one able to accuse you of stealing a single kobo. Now imagine that on top of all that, you left behind about $150 million and roughly N36 billion in savings, after paying off every contractor with matured claims and building more infrastructure than most of your contemporaries combined.
Compare that to the picture Tinubu’s government presents today: a dog straining after a bone dangled just out of reach on its own leash, spending its energy chasing something it was never truly free to catch. That, more than anything else, is the picture of the typical Nigerian politician, and it’s exactly the picture Nigerians should be voting to change in 2027.
