Police confirm the kidnapping of a Benue commissioner

The kidnapping of Benue State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Chief Ekpe Ogbu, by unidentified gunmen has been confirmed by police.

According to reports, the Commissioner was kidnapped along with three others at the notorious Adankari junction on the Ado-Otukpo road around 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Other victims included the Commissioner’s driver, the identity of whom is unknown, and one of his brothers-in-law, Hon Agbo Ode.

SP Sewuese Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Benue State Command, confirmed the incident to reporters in Makurdi on Monday morning.

“Incident confirmed,” Anene said. We’re on our way to the location. I’ll give you more details when we arrive.”

According to sources, the Commissioner had previously attended a Church program where Senator Abba Moro, Benue South Senatorial district, had dedicated his Campaign Council to God at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Otukpo.

He was reportedly on his way back to his village in Ndekma, Utonkon in Ado LGA after the Church program when he was kidnapped.

The police have recovered the official Hilux van in which the Commissioner was traveling, but the commissioner and the other victims’ whereabouts remain unknown.
