Alleged APC Campaign Team Throws Bread to Residents in Ekiti Ahead of Governorship Poll

A video circulating online has stirred debate after individuals allegedly linked to the All Progressives Congress were seen throwing loaves of bread to people along a road in Ekiti State.

In the footage, a campaign truck bearing a large image of Governor Biodun Oyebanji moves slowly through a crowded area as people inside the vehicle toss bread toward residents.

While some people rushed to pick up the loaves, others appeared uninterested and continued with their activities.

The video emerged on Friday, June 19, ahead of Saturday’s Ekiti governorship election, where Oyebanji is seeking re-election. The incident has drawn criticism online, with some describing it as “stomach infrastructure” and accusing politicians of exploiting hardship for electoral gain. The footage itself does not independently establish who organised the distribution or whether it was officially authorised by the APC campaign.

INEC fixed the Ekiti governorship election for Saturday, June 20, 2026, across the state.

Social Media Reactions

The video has sparked mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning the message behind the alleged campaign gesture.

One user wrote:

Throwing bread at people like they are animals is not empowerment. Nigerians deserve better.”

Another commenter said:

“This is exactly why politicians do not take the people seriously. Election season comes and they start sharing food instead of presenting policies.”

A third person reacted:

“Some people will still collect the bread and vote based on their conscience. Hunger should not be used as a campaign strategy.”

Another user added:

“The painful part is that poverty has made this kind of thing look normal in Nigeria.”

Others, however, argued that food distribution should not automatically be viewed as vote-buying unless there is proof that it was tied to a demand for votes.

One commenter wrote:

“Feeding people is not a crime, but throwing bread from a moving vehicle is disrespectful.”
