A man’s account of a cancelled first date has sparked widespread reactions online after he shared how the situation unfolded.
The man, identified as @sir-lux on X (formerly Twitter), revealed that he had a date planned for 6 p.m. However, things took an unexpected turn shortly before their meeting time.
According to him, the lady contacted him about 30 minutes before the scheduled date, explaining that the zip on her outfit had gotten spoiled. In response, he suggested she simply change into another outfit, and their call ended on that note.
But just 10 minutes later, she reached out again—this time with a different request.
“She texted me asking if I could send her some money to buy a new dress at a boutique,” he wrote, adding that he chose not to reply to the message.
In a follow-up tweet, he disclosed that he initially got her contact after seeing her on a friend’s WhatsApp status. Despite admitting that she was physically attractive, he said the incident completely changed his perception.
“To be sincere, she is beautiful and has a good body shape. But what happened yesterday turned me off. We’ve been communicating on WhatsApp for one week,” he added.
The post quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from social media users.
Reactions:
Chinedu Okafor: “That’s a red flag before the relationship even starts. You did well by not replying.”
Aisha Bello: “Some girls actually do this as a test, but it’s a very wrong approach. First date ke?”
Tunde Balogun: “Imagine funding someone you’ve never met. Na so it starts.”
Blessing Eze: “Maybe she genuinely had an issue, but asking for money immediately is too much.”
David Ogunleye: “Bro escaped premium billing on the first date 😂”
Zainab Sadiq: “Even if it was true, she should’ve just rescheduled. That request was unnecessary.”
Michael Udo: “One week of chatting and she’s already asking for money? You dodged a bullet.”
The story has since fueled conversations around dating expectations, boundaries, and financial requests in early-stage relationships.
