A Nigerian lady has sparked conversation online after explaining why she cut off communication with a friend who lives abroad.
The lady, known as @AdageorgeA on X (formerly Twitter), revealed that the man relocated overseas about seven years ago. According to her, their communication faded shortly after his move, as he stopped replying to her messages and engaging with her online.
Unexpectedly, he later reached out to her via TikTok, asking her to check on his sick mother in Nigeria. The request caught her off guard, especially given their long period of silence.
She said she advised him to contact his younger sister, who is also in Nigeria. However, he reportedly declined, claiming he suspected his family members were “playing him.”
Uncomfortable with the situation, she chose to distance herself completely.
“I told him to send his younger sister, which I know is still in Nigeria. He said he is suspecting that they are playing him. Well, I told him that whatever happened to his mom, it’s his family business. Then I blocked him on TikTok and Facebook,” she wrote.
Reactions Trailing the Post
The post quickly gained traction, with many users sharing mixed opinions:
Anorra wrote, “He is more of a user and a fair-weather acquaintance than a real friend. He only remembers you when he’s having trust issues with his siblings—not because he truly values your friendship.”
Ghost commented, “My friend dey leave me on read steadily whenever I text him… I don’t even ask him for money… God go run our own for us 💪🏽.”
Bamgbo added, “He is a user and a very useless human. They only wanna check on you when it’ll benefit them. Very dirty behavior.”
Clinical Firm shared, “My kind of person. Users can never be trusted. They only remember you when they have needs and need sincerity.”
The situation has sparked a broader debate about friendship boundaries, especially when communication fades and suddenly resumes only in times of need.
