“I did my best, I’m going home,” man says after being called an “omo Igbo” and attacked by thugs in a Lagos polling unit

A Nigerian man has taken to Twitter to share his harrowing experience at his polling unit in Ojodu Berger, Lagos State, during the governorship election yesterday, March 18.

He revealed that thugs stormed the polling unit and began threatening voters to leave if they did not intend to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He claimed that they called him a “Omo Igbo” and attacked him, his brother, and an elderly woman, whom they presumably mistook for an Igbo woman.

He claimed they resisted the thugs as much as they could and were injured as a result. He eventually had to leave the polling station for his own safety, he said.

“INEC is useless,” he wrote alongside photos of his injuries. “Everything I did was for the sake of my conscience.”
