Gov Election 2023: “They said we looked like Igbo people,” reveals Chef Sisi Yemmie, who was denied the right to vote in Lagos (video)

Yemisi Sophie Odusanya, popularly known as Sisi Yemmie, a Nigerian chef and YouTuber, has revealed that she and her husband were denied the right to vote in the Lagos state governorship election.

She took to Twitter to express her outrage after being turned away by alleged thugs who claimed to be Igbos.

She posted a video of herself confronting the thugs after they accused her of being from the Eastern part of Nigeria, but she insisted she was Igbo.

One of the thugs was overheard telling her that she is not an indigene and would not be allowed to vote even though she was born in Lagos.

Sisi Yemmie went on to say that the thugs asked her which political party she planned to vote for, and that when she refused to give a direct answer, she was denied entry into the polling unit.

She wrote on Twitter,

“My husband and I were not allowed to vote. They said we look like Igbo people. I can’t believe this. Roman Catholic Church awoyaya,

And yes, they asked if I was going to vote APC, I said allow me enter first. Then they locked the gate . So many of them.

I was born in lagos. I’m a lagos woman. This is my “village” but I was not allowed to vote because I don’t look like Yoruba?”

@Akinboy: @Sisi_Yemmie As painful this may look. These people thought the real Lagosians what they are doing. See video below of what happened during the presidential election in the South East.

@EbiXkapada: And I used to think that Yorubas were the most accommodating tribes in Nigeria, this election has opened my eyes to a lot of things.

@God_Dad1: Yoruba 😆

I know it’s not all of you o but… what rubbish is this???

You all started it on social media and now its playing out in reality and being enforced on everyone. The hate against the igbo man is still unbelievable. Don’t blame us when we give up and clamour for Biafra

@AnthonyEkene: At a PU near Agric, Ikorodu, two men likely in their 50s broke a bottle near me and threatened that they would stab me if I don’t vote APC.

I left the ballot papers blank and went home.

I am not even scared. I am angry.  Very 😠.

@ImIfeanyiOnuoha: Absolutely Shocking!

I’m sorry to hear that you and your husband were denied the right to vote because of your appearance.

This kind of discrimination is completely unacceptable and goes against the principles of a fair and democratic society.

Why are we all doing this to ourselves, have we not suffered more than enough. This country called Nigeria belongs to all of us. Stop this unnecessary hatred.
