US Mission Warns Nigerians Against Visa Violations

The United States Mission in Nigeria has urged Nigerians travelling to the United States to strictly comply with immigration laws and the conditions attached to their visas.

In an advisory shared on its official social-media page on Monday, the Mission warned students, workers and visitors to respect the authorised duration of their stay, noting that violations could affect future opportunities to travel, study or work in the US.

Staying compliant with U.S. immigration laws isn’t just the right thing to do — it protects your future and keeps opportunities open for Nigerian travellers,” the Mission said.

It advised travellers to honour the terms of their visas, avoid overstaying and ensure their travel documents remain valid throughout their stay.

The Mission added that compliance helps preserve trust in the visa system and benefits both travellers and the host country.

Follow the rules. Stay only for as long as you are authorised. Keep your documents updated. Make choices that safeguard your dreams,” it said.

Reactions

“Many people only realise the seriousness of visa conditions after it is too late.”

“Overstaying can close doors not only for the individual but also for future applicants.”

“Travellers should always check their authorised stay period, not just their visa expiry date.”
