MDCAN advises the FG to increase medical students in order to prevent brain drain

According to the Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), increasing the number of medical students is necessary to address the impact of brain drain.

The President of MDCAN, Dr Victor Makanjuola, suggested that if the number of medical students is increased, there may be more doctors to compensate for the low doctor-to-patient ratio.

He bemoaned the fact that, as a result of the country’s doctor brain drain, only 30 percent of the 4,000 doctors who graduate from medical schools each year remain in the country.

He explained at an education summit in Abuja on Wednesday that increasing the number of medical students in the country would increase the country’s doctor population.
