A Nigerian woman has sparked conversation online after recounting her experience with a tricycle driver who transported her children to school for several years.
According to the woman, identified as @ahmedhalima02 on X, she initially paid the driver ₦3,000 weekly to take her children to school. Due to rising fuel costs, she later increased the payment to ₦4,000 per week without being asked.
She noted that despite the increase, the driver never acknowledged the gesture or expressed appreciation. The school, she said, is only about a 10-minute walk from their home, and her children occasionally missed school on Fridays, yet she continued making the full payment and sometimes gave additional tips.
The situation changed when she became busy with preparations for her husband’s niece’s wedding and forgot to send the driver’s weekly payment. After the driver sent a reminder message, her daughter reportedly suggested that they stop using the service altogether and walk to school instead.
Reflecting on the incident, the woman wrote:
“My daughter saw it and said, no need to be wasting my money paying him, they can now go to school all by themselves.”
She concluded with a statement that has since generated mixed reactions online:
“Feed humans for 10 years and default just one day, they forget all you have done for 10 years.”
Reactions and Debate
The story has divided opinions:
Some people sympathized with the woman, arguing that years of consistent patronage and occasional generosity should have earned some goodwill.
Others defended the tricycle driver, saying he was simply requesting payment for a service he provided and may have depended on that income for his livelihood.
A number of commenters also pointed out that gratitude should not necessarily be expected in a business arrangement, especially when both parties benefited from the agreement.
The incident has reignited discussions about appreciation, entitlement, and the line between kindness and professional transactions.
