“Tinubu owns SDP?” – Old 1993 SDP poster of Tinubu goes viral

New discussions concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political background and impact have been sparked by the resurgence of a campaign poster from his 1993 run as a candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The social media poster went viral soon after Joe Igbokwe, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserted that Tinubu “owns” the SDP.

Igbokwe’s assertion followed the defection of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, from the APC to the SDP.

In his statement, El-Rufai cited internal issues within the ruling party as his reason for leaving.

Reacting to the defection, Igbokwe took to social media to warn those considering running for president under the SDP in 2027, insisting that Tinubu holds ultimate control over the party.

“If indeed SDP is still alive and kicking in Nigeria, then know the truth and have inner peace: PBAT is the owner. Ignore him to your own peril.

“I remember our SDP of 1993 and the late Chief MKO Abiola,” he wrote.

In a follow-up post, Igbokwe added;

“He was a Senator under SDP in 1993. Go and investigate and verify. He is the owner of SDP.”
