A man has shared how his planned bride price ceremony was unexpectedly postponed after the money he withdrew for the occasion allegedly disappeared from his home.
According to him, both families had finalized arrangements for the traditional marriage, and he withdrew the required cash on Thursday, two days before the ceremony. He said he kept the money safely at home while waiting for his uncles to collect it on Saturday morning.
However, on Thursday night, a woman he had been seeing casually visited him, telling him she wanted to spend one last night with him before he got married. Although he admitted he felt he should have turned her away, he allowed her to stay.
When Saturday arrived and his uncles came to collect the money, he said the cash had vanished.
“I was supposed to pay bride price last Saturday for my fiancée. Everything had already been arranged between both families. I withdrew the money on Thursday and kept it safely at home, waiting for Saturday morning when my uncles would come and take it. That same Thursday night, a girl I had been seeing casually came over. She said she just wanted to spend one last night with me because I was now becoming a married man. I allowed her to stay, even though something inside me felt I should have said no.”
He explained that despite searching everywhere, the money could not be found, forcing him to postpone the bride price ceremony.
“On Saturday morning, when my uncles came, I went to get the money and it was not there. I searched everywhere but I couldn’t find it. I had to tell them there was a delay, and the whole bride price process had to be postponed. My fiancée is now under pressure from her family, and she feels embarrassed because everything was stopped at the last minute. Since that day, the girl who spent that night with me has not been picking my calls. I strongly feel she took the money. The day I set my eyes on her, she will vomit the money back with interest. My fiancée is disappointed in me.”
The man’s account has sparked reactions online, with many pointing out that there is no evidence confirming who took the money. Others criticized his decision to invite a casual partner over shortly before his traditional marriage, while some sympathized with the difficult situation facing both him and his fiancée.
Reactions:
“Even if she didn’t take the money, inviting another woman over days before your wedding was already a bad decision.”
“Without proof, it’s dangerous to accuse someone of theft.”
“I feel sorry for the fiancée. She has to deal with embarrassment over something she didn’t cause.”
“Sometimes one poor decision can ruin months of planning.”
“Report the matter to the police instead of making accusations without evidence.”
