Burna Boy Breaks Spotify Record, Becomes Most-Streamed African Artist by Monthly Listeners

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has set a new all-time record for the highest number of monthly listeners ever achieved by an African artist on Spotify.

The Grammy-winning singer surpassed the previous record of 46.58 million monthly listeners, which was held by Tyla. Burna Boy has now climbed to 47.3 million monthly listeners, making him the African artist with the highest monthly listener count in Spotify history.

His latest streaming milestone has been fueled largely by his collaboration with Shakira on the FIFA World Cup song Dai Dai, which has attracted millions of streams worldwide.

The song also reached No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart, making Burna Boy the first African artist to top the chart since Wizkid achieved the feat through his collaboration with Drake on One Dance in 2016.

With his current momentum, Burna Boy is now on course to become the first African artist to reach the landmark of 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Announcing the achievement, the World Music Awards wrote:

Burna Boy breaks the all-time record as the African Artist with the Most Monthly Listeners in Spotify history (46.84M), surpassing Tyla (46.5M)! 💪🦍🐐👑❤️‍🔥”
