ADC Submits Atiku, Amaechi’s Names to INEC Ahead of 2027 Election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially submitted the names and personal details of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced the development in a statement shared on X on Tuesday, describing it as another major milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election.

According to Abdullahi, the submission reflects the ADC’s commitment to offering Nigerians “a credible alternative built on competence, unity, and national renewal.”

Atiku secured the ADC presidential ticket on May 27 after defeating former banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen and Amaechi in the party’s primary election. He polled 1,846,370 votes, while Amaechi received 504,117 votes and Hayatu-Deen secured 177,120 votes.

Following his victory, Atiku called on his fellow contestants to unite behind the party’s mission, insisting that there were no winners or losers in the contest but a shared commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

On June 16, the ADC announced Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate after what the party described as extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, and representatives from all six geopolitical zones.

The party said Amaechi was chosen because of his political experience, leadership credentials, and broad support among party members across the country.
