A social media user identified as Mr Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, known on X as Swanky_concept, has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to spreading false information online about the daughter of Nigerian singers Adekunle Gold and Simi.
Samuel had sparked outrage after posting a misleading message on X implying that the couple’s daughter, Deja, had died. He wrote: “My sincere condolences to the Adekunle family. Rip to Deja.”
The post quickly went viral and triggered confusion and emotional reactions before it was confirmed to be false. Authorities later took action, leading to his arraignment.
He was sentenced on May 15 after pleading guilty to spreading misinformation with malicious intent.
