Wizkid’s latest certification set a new RIAA Nigerian record

Wizkid, the Nigerian megastar, has set yet another record by becoming the first Nigerian artist to receive an RIAA diamond certification.

Wizkid, the Afrobeats megastar, has received an RIAA diamond certification for his contributions to Drake’s mega-hit ‘One Dance,’ which has sold over ten million units in the United States.

The 2016 single is one of the songs on Drake’s ‘Views’ album and features Wizkid and Kyla Reid. The song would go on to become an international hit, with over 2.4 billion Spotify streams.

‘One Dance’ was a watershed moment for Wizkid, elevating him to the status of one of Africa’s biggest stars. It was also a watershed moment for Afrobeats, as the single introduced the genre to a global audience.

Wizkid is the first Nigerian artist to receive a diamond RIAA certification as a result of the award. The Grammy winner has previously received RIAA plaques, the most recent of which was a platinum plaque for his international hit single ‘Essence,’ which featured Tems and Justin Bieber.
