A UK-based Nigerian man, Franklyn, has sparked widespread reactions online after sharing a deeply emotional story of alleged betrayal by his former partner, claiming the experience cost him his visa, finances, mental health, and peace of mind.
Franklyn, known on X as @phranklie1, recounted how he reportedly played a major role in helping his ex-partner relocate to the United Kingdom. According to him, he supported her through IELTS preparation, NMC registration, dissertation work, job applications, and other financial responsibilities tied to her relocation and settlement.
However, he alleged that things took a painful turn after he discovered evidence suggesting she was involved with another man.
According to his account, confronting her about the situation eventually led to her reporting him to the police, which he says triggered a legal battle that resulted in severe consequences, including the loss of his 5-year visa, court appearances, massive legal fees, emotional trauma, and long-term psychological distress.
Franklyn revealed that the ordeal forced him into therapy, caused panic attacks, and significantly affected his finances and career. He also claimed he had to sell personal properties, including a house in Lagos, to cover legal expenses.
Despite the intense pain he described, he said he is trying to let go of hatred for the sake of his own healing.
In his words:
“I brought mine to the UK, helped her with everything, got her settled, and in the end, I lost almost everything because of betrayal. I still have panic attacks every night because of the pain.”
He further detailed how discovering explicit conversations between her and another man shattered him emotionally, while the resulting legal fallout left him with a criminal record and financial burdens.
While many social media users sympathized with his ordeal, others debated the complexities of relationships, trust, immigration dependency, and personal accountability.
His story has added to growing conversations online about emotional trauma, relationship exploitation, and the risks some individuals face when making life-changing sacrifices for partners.
