Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, is in the lead following Saturday’s general election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared collated results in 20 states as of Monday night.
Tinubu currently leads with 5,862,453 votes, while PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar has received 4,288,434 votes.
With 2,834,932 votes, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, is currently in third place; Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, received 1,315,549.
Tinubu, surprisingly, is the only top contender who did not win his home state, losing Lagos to Obi. Atiku triumphed in President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state of Katsina.
The results from the remaining states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, are expected to be released today at 11 a.m.
The International Conference Centre, ICC, in Abuja, which serves as the national collation center, remains heavily guarded.
On Monday, the opposition called for a halt to the announcement of results. Dino Melaye and Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP left the ICC at some point.
The parties complained about irregularities, over-voting, and officials’ refusal to upload results to the INEC website, among other things.
VisioTalks checks show that 79,673 polling units out of 176,846 in 774 local government areas have submitted results.
