A man has sparked reactions online after recounting an experience he had during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year involving his landlady and her daughter.
According to him, he rented an apartment during his service year in a compound where his landlady lived with her adult daughter.
He explained that the daughter often brought him meals, which he initially saw as a kind gesture. However, he later began noticing signs that made him suspect there may have been more behind the hospitality.
The former corps member said the daughter regularly visited his apartment and would stay late watching television with him. What made the situation more unusual for him was that his landlady never objected to the frequent visits.
“I started noticing signs. The daughter would come over to my place, sit down, and watch TV with me till late, and the mother never complained. Not once.”
To make his relationship status clear without having an uncomfortable conversation, he invited his then-girlfriend—now his wife—to visit him.
The man said the atmosphere reportedly changed after his girlfriend’s visit, making him believe that the daughter and possibly her mother may have had expectations he was unaware of.
The story has generated mixed reactions online. While some people believe the daughter may have had romantic interest in him, others argued that he could have simply misunderstood ordinary kindness.
