A Nigerian has sparked debate online after defending former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi against critics who repeatedly demand that he present a detailed development plan.
According to the social media user, Obi had previously explained that he visited Indonesia and Egypt to study how the countries improved key sectors such as electricity, healthcare, and education.
The user argued that Obi had already outlined practical examples of what worked in those countries, including the construction of new power plants, the expansion of primary healthcare centres, and the establishment of thousands of vocational and technical schools to provide skilled labour.
He questioned why some Nigerians continue to ask, “Where is the plan?” despite Obi publicly discussing these areas and emphasizing the need to replicate successful models.
The commentator further argued that leadership should be judged not only by written manifestos but also by a demonstrated commitment to learning, acquiring knowledge, and implementing solutions.
Drawing a comparison with President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 “Renewed Hope” manifesto, the user questioned how many of its promises Nigerians can recall and whether some major economic policies, such as the floating of the naira, were clearly outlined before implementation.
According to him, many critics appear more interested in dismissing Obi than evaluating the substance of his proposals, adding that genuine commitment to solving Nigeria’s challenges should matter as much as detailed policy documents.
The post has since generated mixed reactions across social media, with supporters and critics offering differing views on the importance of political manifestos, leadership vision, and policy execution.
