Hollywood Actor Paul Avery and Wife Die in House Fire

Veteran actor Paul Avery and his wife, Sheila Avery, have tragically died following a house fire at their home in Blairstown, New Jersey. The fire reportedly broke out shortly before 1 a.m. on June 16, 2026, while the couple was inside the residence.

According to reports, firefighters entered the burning home and found both Paul and Sheila in critical condition. Emergency responders performed CPR in an effort to save them, but the couple later succumbed to their injuries. Authorities have confirmed that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Their daughter, Kyle Avery, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a social media post, expressing the family’s devastation and gratitude to the Blairstown Fire Department for their efforts during the emergency.

Paul Avery was born on April 2, 1944, and was best known for portraying Hughie, the bartender at Foxy’s, on the long-running soap opera All My Children, a role he played for about 12 years. He also appeared in the 1978 film Superman and several television productions throughout his acting career. Beyond acting, Avery was a Vietnam War veteran, pilot, journalist, and founder of the Ridge View Echo newspaper.

The news has prompted an outpouring of condolences from fans, colleagues, and members of the entertainment community, many remembering Avery for his diverse career and contributions both on and off screen.
