A Nigerian lady has stirred reactions online after sharing her friend’s painful experience with security operatives while on his way to a job interview.
According to the lady, identified as @official-QV on X (formerly Twitter), her friend was stopped at a police checkpoint despite being properly dressed and prepared for an important interview.
She explained that officers reportedly detained him for about two hours over suspicions based solely on his appearance.
Unfortunately, the prolonged delay caused him to miss the interview.
When he later contacted the company, he was informed that the position had already been filled.
Reflecting on the situation, she lamented that a brief encounter with law enforcement may have permanently altered his career path.
“They said they had already moved on. He didn’t get another opportunity with that company. A policeman who will never know his name changed the trajectory of his career in 2 hours,” she wrote.
Social media reactions
The story sparked widespread discussion, with many Nigerians sharing similar encounters:
Jeremiah: “A policeman once stopped me on my way to deliver a parcel just because he thought I looked too good and clean to be doing rider work.”
Lu Ralph: “It happened to me too… slightly different, in Jos after the crisis.”
Deborah: “Make Nigeria no happen to person oo.”
Daniel Amali: Expressed anger over the recurring experiences.
The incident has once again fueled conversations about police profiling, abuse of authority, and how routine security checks can sometimes have life-changing consequences for innocent citizens.
