Pastor Adeboye Defends Tinubu, Calls for Tougher Action Against Insecurity Sponsors

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has defended Bola Ahmed Tinubu against criticism over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, saying the president has fulfilled his responsibility by issuing directives to the nation’s security agencies.

Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, Adeboye argued that it is unrealistic to expect the Commander-in-Chief to personally participate in military operations.

When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki and fight,” he said.

To illustrate his point, Adeboye referenced Donald Trump, noting that national leaders issue directives while military and security institutions are responsible for executing them.

When my friend Trump gives instructions to go and bomb anywhere, he doesn’t leave the White House. He has done his bit… The rest is left to the supporters,” he said.

Despite defending President Tinubu, the cleric admitted that insecurity has become more severe, warning that terrorism and kidnapping have spread beyond northern Nigeria into the South.

Things have gone far, far worse… The terrorism, kidnapping, and so on that were in the north are now even at my doorstep.”

Adeboye also revealed that he had privately discussed the security situation with President Tinubu and Oluremi Tinubu, urging the president to give military chiefs a 90-day deadline to eliminate insecurity or resign.

He further stressed that the government should focus on arresting and prosecuting those allegedly financing terrorist and criminal groups, arguing that dismantling their funding and weapons supply networks is essential to ending the crisis.

The RCCG leader concluded by calling for stronger international cooperation, urging countries such as the United States to support Nigeria’s efforts to combat terrorism and improve national security.
