The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted Omoyele Sowore ₦200 million bail in his ongoing trial over alleged cybercrime offences.
Justice Mohammed Umar ruled on Tuesday that Sowore should be released on bail but attached strict conditions to his release.
The court ordered him to provide two sureties, one of whom must be a recognised traditional ruler from his community, while the other must own landed property in the Federal Capital Territory. The prosecution was also directed to verify both sureties before the bail conditions can be considered fulfilled.
In addition, Sowore was ordered to surrender his international passport to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the conclusion of the trial.
Following the ruling, the activist was released into the custody of his legal team to enable him perfect the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned until July 6, when the defence is expected to begin presenting its case. Sowore is facing allegations of cybercrime, which he has consistently denied.
