Over 100 quack hospitals and pharmacies closed in a LG in Kano

In Kano State’s Tudunwada Local Government Area, more than a hundred dubious hospitals and pharmacies have been closed down, including a hospital with a fake surgeon performing childbirth.

Following reports of frequent maternal deaths and patients developing deformities as a result of using the medical facilities, the owners of the facilities were shut down and arrested.

Concerned about the situation, the local government formed a health committee under the direction of a prominent member of the community, Abubakar Usman Kareba, which looked into it and discovered numerous fake medical facilities that were operating illegally nearby.

Following the closure of the fraudulent medical facilities, Kareba informed reporters that the owners had been taken into custody.

He asserted that the local government would not back down from pursuing harsh legal measures against all those detained, including a traditional medicine practitioner who also delivers babies and conducts surgeries.

James Bawa, a quack physician from Kaduna State, admitted guilt on all counts and begged the committee for forgiveness while promising to return to his home state.

Another quack physician, Mallam Shehu, a practitioner of traditional medicine, acknowledged that for a long time he had been operating on patients surgically, administering injections to patients, and taking care of expectant mothers.

Abubakar Usman Kareba, the chairman of the committee, promised that legal action would be taken against everyone who had been detained in order to serve as a warning to others.
