Mother Reportedly Beats School Staff After Daughter Was Allegedly Flogged Over Failed Quiz

A lady has stirred conversations on social media after narrating how her mother confronted and allegedly beat a school staff member who severely punished her younger sister over a failed quiz.

According to the lady, the incident began after the school contacted her mother to report that her sister suddenly developed a fever and had to be taken home.

Suspicious about the sudden illness, the woman said her mother rushed back from work and later discovered that the child had allegedly been flogged mercilessly by a female staff member, commonly referred to as “aunty” in many Nigerian schools.

One ‘Aunty’ at school flogged my sister mercilessly for failing a quiz, to the point that she threw up. They had to take her home because she started running a fever,” she said.

She further claimed that her mother reacted angrily after learning what happened.

“She went out, bought four canes, and headed to the school. Unfortunately for the aunty, my mum caught her off guard in the school compound, broke all the canes on her body, and continued with her hands. The aunty saw pepper that day,” she added.

The story has since reignited debates online about corporal punishment in schools across Nigeria, with many social media users condemning excessive discipline against children.

Others, however, argued that while the alleged punishment of the child was wrong, physically attacking a school staff member was also unacceptable.

Cases involving harsh punishment in schools have repeatedly generated public outrage in recent years, especially when students reportedly suffer injuries or health complications linked to excessive flogging.

The lady also claimed that the staff member involved was later dismissed by the school management following the incident.

Reactions

“If a teacher beats a child to the point of vomiting and fever, that is no longer discipline.”

“The mother overreacted, but honestly, some teachers take corporal punishment too far.”

“Why are schools still allowing this kind of excessive flogging in 2026?”

“Two wrongs don’t make a right. The staff member should have been reported, not assaulted.”

“Any parent would lose their temper after seeing their child in that condition.”

“The real issue is that many schools still normalize violence as punishment.”

“Imagine failing a quiz and ending up with fever because of flogging. That’s disturbing.”

“Both the school and the parent should have handled the situation legally instead of violently.”
