A Nigerian lady has gone viral after sharing why she ended her long-time friendship with her childhood best friend.
The woman, identified as @zamakonke on X, revealed that she discovered her friend had posted about her birthday on WhatsApp—but deliberately hid the status from her.
According to her, she initially reached out to her friend for not acknowledging her birthday. The friend denied posting anything, but screenshots later told a different story.
She then realised she had been blocked from viewing the status, which left her feeling excluded and hurt. In response, she blocked the friend across all social media platforms and ended the friendship.
“Why would you hide statuses from me as your best friend? Blocked her on all social media platforms as well. This is my childhood best friend from primary school grade,” she wrote.
The post has since gained nearly a million views, triggering mixed reactions from users online.
Reactions Trailing Below…
The Black View:
“Friends are not supposed to behave in questionable ways.”
Fareed Ahmed:
“It’s not even just about the birthday post—it’s the feeling of being hidden or not openly acknowledged that hurts more. Realizing something like that can completely change how you see the friendship.”
Hunczoh:
“I have never understood the concept of people wishing others a happy birthday on their status instead of just messaging them directly. That makes more sense.”
Nate:
“Lol, but was it necessary to end the relationship? I don’t think that was that deep.”
