A woman has stirred widespread reactions online after sharing how a long-standing friendship came to an abrupt end over what many have described as a petty—but revealing—food-related incident.
The story, which surfaced on social media earlier this week, highlights how repeated boundary issues during visits gradually built up into a final confrontation that ultimately broke the relationship.
According to the narrator, her friend had a consistent habit of selecting the choicest pieces of meat whenever she came over to eat.
“Whenever she comes to my house, I allow her to serve herself. She would stir my soup just to pick the best protein. And anytime I complained, she’d say since no one else was coming to eat, I should feel lucky she was there,” she recounted.
Despite raising concerns multiple times, the behavior reportedly continued, creating underlying tension between them.
The situation, however, reached its tipping point when the narrator visited her friend—who is now married—and decided to return the gesture in a way that mirrored past experiences.
She admitted to deliberately serving herself generously from a pot of egusi soup prepared for her friend’s husband, intentionally picking multiple choice pieces of meat despite not even liking the meal.
“I made sure I stirred it well and picked three of the best meats,” she said. “She got angry, and I didn’t apologise. After all, it’s just her husband—he’ll understand.”
The move reportedly infuriated her friend, leading to a heated exchange that ended their friendship on the spot.
The story has since gone viral, sparking mixed reactions online. While some argue the response was justified as a form of “taste of her own medicine,” others believe both parties failed to respect basic boundaries and communication.
