A 28-year-old Nigerian woman has found herself in emotional turmoil after a serious disagreement between her fiancé and her family over bride price threatened to derail their planned wedding.
According to her, she has been in a relationship with her partner for four years, during which he accepted her and her 4-year-old son from a previous relationship. She described him as supportive, loving, and financially stable, making her believe marriage was the next step.
Trouble began during traditional marriage discussions when her parents demanded ₦2.5 million as bride price, saying it reflected the sacrifices they made in raising and educating her.
Her fiancé, however, rejected the amount outright, arguing it was too high considering she already had a child. He reportedly described the request as unfair.
After negotiations, the family reduced the demand to ₦1.8 million, but the man still refused, insisting he could only pay ₦800,000.
The disagreement has now escalated into a serious family conflict, with both sides feeling disrespected. Her parents insist the bride price reflects her value and their investment in her upbringing, while the fiancé believes he is being overcharged.
The woman, caught in the middle, expressed heartbreak over the situation, especially over comments she says her fiancé made about her “status.”
