A mother has sparked laughter and debate online after sharing how her five-month-old baby refused to let go of eba and egusi soup after tasting it for the very first time.
According to the woman, she woke up only to discover that her own mother had already introduced the infant to the popular Nigerian meal. Surprisingly, the baby reportedly ate with excitement and showed no signs of stopping.
The mother explained that she immediately intervened because she felt the child was too young to be eating swallow. However, the situation quickly escalated when the baby began crying uncontrollably after being taken away.
She said the child only calmed down after being returned to his grandmother for another taste of the soup.
“I woke up and found my mum feeding my five-month-old baby eba and egusi soup. The boy was eating with so much zeal. I got angry and carried my baby away, but he started screaming and wailing. He didn’t stop until I gave him back to my mum and she put egusi soup in his mouth again,” she narrated.
Social Media Reactions
The story quickly entertained many social media users, with several Nigerians joking that the baby had already discovered “real food.”
Some commenters shared similar family experiences involving grandparents secretly introducing babies to local meals earlier than expected.
Others humorously claimed the child was “a true Nigerian” for choosing egusi soup over baby food.
The incident also reminded many users of another viral moment in 2024 when a toddler reportedly rejected baby cereal during a family gathering in Ibadan and insisted on eating amala instead.
