Appeals court reinstate Adeleke as the Governor of Osun

Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun state, has been reinstated by the Court of Appeal.

Recall that the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which met in Osogbo on Friday, January 27, declared Ademola Adeleke’s election as Osun governor null and void.

On Friday, March 24, a three-judge tribunal presided over by Justice Mohammed Lawal Shuaibu ruled that All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and former governor Gboyega Oyetola had failed to substantiate claims of overvoting in favor of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

They also claimed that the electoral panel erred in ruling that Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress, the first and second respondents, had established their claim of excessive voting.

The appeal court also fined the APC and its nominee N500,000 in costs in a unanimous decision.

It did, however, reject Adeleke’s argument that the governorship election petition panel chairman’s remark that “Go low, low, Buga won” was not prejudicial.
