Ali Baba, AY, Tope Alabi, and others pay tribute to late singer Sammie Okposo at a tribute party

The praise party was an annual event held by the singer at the end of the year; the 2022 edition was held in both the United Kingdom and Lagos, Nigeria.

The Praise Party and Tributes Night in memory of late gospel artist Sammie Okposo was held on Tuesday, December 13 at La Madison Place in Oniru, Lagos State. 

The celebration was part of a gathering to say goodbye to the singer, who died on November 25. 

Ozioma, the singer’s wife, burst into tears as a video compilation of the deceased’s beautiful and funny moments with his son, daughter, and her was shown to the audience. 

Ay Comedian, Ali Baba, Charles Inojie, Segun Arinze, Desmond Elliot, and many other celebrities were in attendance and paid their respects.

Several minutes were set aside for tributes from around the world, particularly from people who the artist had a significant influence on. 

Singers such as Tope Alabi and Timi Dakolo brought the audience to tears as they paid tribute to the late artist, who had a huge impact on the Nigerian gospel music scene. 

Kevin Bond, a producer based in the United States, stated that he first came to Nigeria through Sammie. He also stated that he and his family adored the late singer.

“My family here knows his music. Listen, we lost a great one,” he said.

Byron Cage, a well-known gospel artist in the United States, thanked God for bringing their paths together.

He said, “We got a chance to travel through Africa and Europe, till we meet again, my brother. And thank God our paths crossed.”

Other gospel artists in the United States, such as Jonathan Nelson and Phil Thompson, praised the late singer’s memory. 

After reading a Bible verse to the audience, leading Nigerian gospel artist Sinach spoke about Okposo, urging the family to remain strong.

“I want to say that God is faithful, no matter what.” “Sammie was amazing for our family; we love you, Ozy,” Sinach said.

On May 30, 1971, Okposo was born. He was a Nigerian gospel singer, music producer, psalmist, and the CEO of Zamar Entertainment.
