The manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, was issued an arrest warrant by a Lagos Federal High Court on Thursday.
The EFCC filed a motion ex parte to have the manager arrested, and Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the order.
During Thursday’s hearing, Bilikisu Buhari declared that he would be appearing before the EFCC.
Following that, she told the court about an application filed by the EFCC in accordance with Section 35(1)(c) of the 1999 Constitution and Sections 35, 36, 37, 38, and 39 of the 2015 Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
The lawyer then filed the application, asking for permission to issue an arrest warrant for the manager.
She said that in order to answer for the alleged crimes, the manager would have to appear in court under the warrant.
Ms. Buhari argued that a public summons to declare the manager wanted would be issued if the commission was unable to arrest him.
aThe manager’s arraignment is scheduled for January 24 after the court granted the application.
In a supporting affidavit, the EFCC claimed to have received a petition against the manager from Chinwo.
The commission’s investigator, Michael Idoko, deposed to the affidavit.
According to the allegation, the manager received royalties from all of the gospel singer’s events and digital platforms without disclosing them.
The gospel singer said that the manager took $345,000 and failed to pay her portion, according to the EFCC.
It stated that the manager could not be apprehended and that a warrant of arrest had to be applied for.
In order to arraign the singer’s manager, the court postponed the case until January 24.
