Bola Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State and the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, has been declared the president-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
This came after the 70-year-old politician received 8,794,726 votes to win the 2023 presidential election, defeating his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, who received 6,984,520 votes.
Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), both former governors of Kano State, were also runups, receiving 6,101,533 and 1,496,687 votes, respectively.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of INEC, announced Tinubu as the winner in the early hours of Wednesday at the International Collation Centre in Abuja.
This, however, elicited strong reactions from Nigerians, particularly supporters of the ruling party, APC, and other presidential candidates. The following are screenshots of reactions from Nigerians who heard the news;
