A man was left in shock after arriving at his construction site and seeing what a plumber did to his building. In a video that has since circulated online, the man could be heard lamenting over the damage caused to the structure.
Some of the walls in the building were said to be on the verge of collapsing, while huge holes had been dug through other walls — holes big enough to fit a full grown human being. The man’s reaction in the video showed his frustration and disbelief at how badly the job was handled.
What Could Have Caused This
Cases like this are common, and they usually happen because of a few reasons.
The first is the use of unqualified or untrained workers. Many people hire “plumbers” who never went through proper training. They learn small small from following someone around, but they don’t understand how a building is designed to carry weight. So when it’s time to fix pipes, they just start breaking walls anyhow, without knowing which walls are load-bearing (meaning walls that hold up the building) and which ones are not.
The second reason is lack of supervision. Many house owners give artisans the job and leave them to work alone, without checking on them regularly until the damage has already been done.
The third reason is poor planning. A proper plumbing job should start with a clear plan — where the pipes will pass, how deep to dig, and which walls to avoid. But many artisans just pick up their tools and start hitting the wall directly, without any plan at all.
The fourth reason is that many house owners prioritize cheap cost over quality. People often hire the cheapest available person instead of someone qualified, just to save money, and this ends up costing more when the damage has to be repaired.
The Effects of Damage Like This
Damage like this can weaken the entire building and make it unsafe for people to live in. It also costs more money to fix the damage afterward than it would have cost to hire a proper professional from the beginning. In serious cases, it can even lead to the building collapsing, especially if the damage affects the main support walls. Beyond the financial and safety cost, incidents like this also create distrust between house owners and artisans in general.
Possible Solutions
House owners are advised to hire licensed or well-recommended plumbers, instead of just anybody who claims they can do the work. Before any work begins, there should be a clear plan showing where the pipes will pass, and this should be discussed and agreed upon by both parties. Where possible, an engineer or at least a knowledgeable person should supervise any construction or repair work that involves touching walls. There have also been calls for government and professional bodies to push for artisans to obtain proper certification, so that people can easily identify who is truly qualified for the job.
Analysis
The bigger issue here is that many people don’t see plumbing, electrical work, or other building trades as something serious that requires real training. It’s often seen as work that “anybody can do.” But a building is a delicate structure, and every wall and pipe serves a purpose — touching the wrong part can affect the safety of the entire house.
This particular case is unfortunate, but not surprising, as similar incidents happen frequently. The solution does not lie in blaming the plumber alone. House owners also share responsibility by ensuring they hire the right person for the job and supervise the work properly, rather than assuming that any handyman can be trusted with something this important.
