FG Bans Motorcycles, Tricycles on Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

The Federal Ministry of Works has banned the use of commercial motorcycles (okadas) and tricycles (keke) on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

The announcement was made by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare, in a statement released on Sunday. According to him, the restriction takes effect this week and is aimed at protecting the newly completed sections of the highway from misuse and damage.

Dare explained that the move is necessary to preserve the road, ensure proper maintenance, and guarantee its long-term durability.

In addition to the ban on motorcycles and tricycles, the ministry has also prohibited indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the coastal highway and on all bridges in Lagos State.

The ministry further warned against the illegal dumping of waste on highway corridors, describing the practice as unacceptable.

According to Dare, warning signs have already been installed along the highway, while task force officials will be deployed to key locations to enforce compliance. He cautioned that anyone found violating the new regulations would face strict enforcement measures.

Describing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a world-class infrastructure project, Dare urged all road users to obey the new directives, stressing that proper maintenance would extend the lifespan of the road and ensure it continues to serve Nigerians safely and effectively.
