
A heartbreaking story has surfaced online after a woman revealed how she unknowingly sent money to the wrong person for six years while trying to fulfil a promise she made to her late husband.
According to her, she promised her husband on his deathbed that she would always take care of his mother. After he passed away, she began sending monthly financial support, believing she was helping her mother-in-law live comfortably.
Shortly after the funeral, a woman who appeared supportive during the family’s difficult period offered to assist with banking arrangements. She reportedly provided bank details she claimed belonged to the elderly woman.
Still grieving and trusting the information she received, the widow began sending money into the account every month.
For six years, she continued the payments while regularly checking on her mother-in-law. Whenever she asked how things were going, she was told everything was manageable, giving her the impression that the money was reaching its destination.
However, the truth came to light after her bank contacted her to verify the account details connected to the transfers.
When the bank mentioned the name attached to the account, she said she immediately became suspicious because it was unfamiliar.
She travelled to see her mother-in-law and asked about the bank account. But the elderly woman reportedly responded:
“What account?”
The widow then explained that she had been sending money every month for six years. Her mother-in-law broke down in tears and insisted she had never received any support throughout that period.
Further investigation allegedly revealed that the woman who offered help after the funeral had given her own account details instead of those of the mother-in-law.
When confronted, the woman reportedly admitted to receiving and spending the money, believing the widow would never discover the truth because she was overwhelmed by grief.
Although the money could not be recovered, the widow said the betrayal hurt more than the financial loss.
She has now brought her mother-in-law to live with her and vowed to personally make sure she never lacks care again.
