A Nigerian man has sparked debate online after revealing that his sister has allegedly been avoiding him for three months because he refused to lend her additional money.
The man, identified as @TheMrbachelor on X, explained that he turned down his sister’s request because she had already borrowed money from him twice and had yet to repay the debt.
According to him, the disagreement escalated to the point where his sister stopped speaking to him. He further disclosed that some family members have urged him to forgive the debt and move on.
Questioning the fairness of the situation, he wrote:
“If being family means I should forget the debt, why doesn’t being family stop her from owing me in the first place?”
His post quickly attracted reactions from social media users, many of whom shared differing opinions on lending money to relatives and setting financial boundaries within families.

“Exactly. Family only gets mentioned when they want something. Never when it’s time to repay. Boundaries aren’t hatred, they’re self-respect.”

“Being family doesn’t mean you should let go of debt if you cannot afford it.”

“Sometimes, this family thing can get really twisted. A man’s true family is him, his wife and children.”
Cjay added:
“You have to always look out for yourself first, especially when it has to do with family. Let nobody gaslight you into thinking your stand is irrational. She should pay up immediately.”
