Social media commentator Daniel Regha has publicly criticized David Oyedepo following the expiration of the seven-day period the cleric had earlier declared for divine judgment against bandits and their sponsors.
The criticism came after fresh reports of violent attacks, kidnappings, and killings continued to emerge from various parts of Nigeria despite the bishop’s prophetic declaration.
During a church service themed “Covenant Day of Vengeance,” Bishop Oyedepo had strongly addressed the worsening insecurity crisis in the country, stating:
“Except I am not sent, in the next seven days, I declare judgment upon those responsible for these disasters and their sponsors in Jesus’ name.”
The declaration was widely circulated and drew attention from both supporters and critics.
Reacting after the seven days reportedly passed, Daniel Regha questioned why bandit activities were still escalating, citing multiple recent reports of violence across several states.
According to him, incidents allegedly recorded within the past 24 to 48 hours included:
- Assault on a family in Kabba-Bunu LGA, Kogi State
- Deadly attacks in Benue State
- Abduction cases in Ondo State
- Fatal assaults in Katsina State
- Killings of a pastor and family in Plateau State
- Terror-related attacks in Northeastern Nigeria
In his online post, Regha wrote:
“Oyedepo declared divine judgment on bandits within seven days… Now 7 days has ended, but it’s been one news about bandits attacking after the other… So what happened to his declaration, and divine retribution? It didn’t work.”
His remarks have sparked widespread debate online, with some defending the bishop’s statement as spiritual rather than literal, while others argue that public prophetic declarations should be subject to scrutiny when tied to real-world crises.
