Man Refuses to Attend Friend’s Wedding Over Snub at Child’s Naming Ceremony

A woman has stirred reactions online after explaining why her husband chose not to attend his long-time friend’s wedding, citing an earlier incident that left them both disappointed.

According to her post, the friendship between her husband and the groom dates back to their university days and had remained intact over the years, despite a few concerns about the friend’s behavior.

She recounted how her husband had gone out of his way to support the friend, including traveling from Lagos to Ogun State to attend his introduction ceremony last year — a gesture that showed commitment and loyalty.

However, things took a turn months later during their child’s naming ceremony.

My husband personally invited him, and he confirmed he would attend,” she wrote. “But on the day of the event, he called to say our place was too far.”

She added that although the friend sent ₦10,000, the excuse didn’t sit well with them, especially since both parties live on the Mainland.

After my husband traveled all the way to another state for him, saying our place was too far just didn’t make sense,” she explained.

The situation became even more awkward when the same friend later added her husband to a group chat for his wedding preparations, expecting his involvement.

At first, my husband wanted to attend,” she continued. “But then he thought about it and asked himself why.”

In the end, he decided not to go.

He said if our house was too far for our celebration, then his wedding is also too far,” she concluded.

Reactions Online:

That’s valid. Respect should be mutual.”

“Friendship isn’t by force. Energy for energy.”

“He did the right thing. Some people only show up when it benefits them.”

“₦10k can’t replace presence, especially after confirming attendance.”

“But honestly, life happens. Maybe the friend had genuine reasons?”

“Petty? Maybe. But also understandable.”

“People don’t forget how you made them feel. Simple.”

The story has sparked debate, with many weighing in on whether the husband’s decision was justified or an overreaction.
