A Nigerian man has sparked conversation online after sharing how his aunt, who lives in the United Kingdom, blocked several family members on WhatsApp.
The man, identified as @-99George on X (formerly Twitter), revealed that even relatives who had never asked his aunt for money were not spared, as she reportedly blocked multiple contacts at once.
In his post, he explained that while the move surprised many, he doesn’t blame her, suggesting she may have been overwhelmed by constant financial expectations from family members.

“Many Nigerians think once you travel abroad, things automatically become easy for you… Sometimes that’s not the case. Surviving there isn’t always easier than in Nigeria—just that there are more opportunities and better pay.”
The situation has once again highlighted the pressure many Nigerians abroad face from extended family expectations, especially when it comes to financial support.
