“Stop Asking for Transport Money, Ask for Flights”: Nigerian Lady’s Take on Relationship Finances Sparks Debate

A Nigerian woman has ignited discussions on social media after sharing her controversial views on how women should handle financial support in relationships.

In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she advised women to stop asking men for small things like transport fare, suggesting instead that they aim for “bigger gestures” such as flight bookings.

As a girl, if you’re still collecting transport fare from men in 2026, that’s ghetto. Let him book your flight instead,” she said.

She explained that once a man demonstrates willingness to spend on something substantial, like a flight ticket, it becomes easier for women to request smaller items for personal upkeep, lifestyle needs, and shopping.

Then you can start with the small requests; nails, lashes, hair, and shopping. Normally he’ll do all that since he already paid for the flight,” she added.

According to her, men are less likely to decline smaller requests after spending on bigger ones, as they wouldn’t want the money already spent to go to waste.

Social Media Reactions

The video has sparked mixed reactions across X, with users expressing support, criticism, and humor:

Supporters:

Chiamaka Okafor: “If he can afford to fly you out, he can definitely handle your small requests. Smart strategy!”

Funke Adeyemi: “She’s just telling women to value themselves and aim higher, nothing wrong with that.”

Tobi Alabi: “Nothing wrong with asking for bigger things first. It’s about knowing your worth.”

Critics:

Emeka Nwosu: “This is materialistic nonsense. Relationships aren’t about flights and shopping lists!”

Bisi Olatunji: “Some of these women are teaching entitlement rather than genuine partnership. This advice is unrealistic.”

Adebayo Lawal: “So now women measure love in Naira and dollars? That’s toxic.”

Humorous reactions:

Nkechi Udeh: “Imagine waiting for your flight first before you can ask for hair and nails 😂😂”

Segun Adepoju: “Next thing, she’ll tell women to ask for mansions before even saying hi 😅”

Ifeoma Chukwu: “So I guess transport fare is officially extinct in 2026 🤣🤣”

The debate continues online as users weigh whether this advice reflects modern dating realities or an unhealthy focus on material gain.
