A Nigerian man has stirred intense reactions online after revealing how his close friend was publicly rejected during a surprise proposal, only to later discover the woman had been in another relationship for years. The story, posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), has reignited discussions about trust, commitment, and honesty in modern relationships.
According to the man, the incident took place in 2015 after his friend had dated the woman for five years. In a grand romantic gesture, he flew her from Abuja to Lagos to celebrate his birthday. Friends filled the house, cameras were set, and the atmosphere was festive and hopeful. Then came the defining moment:
“He knelt down… and she said NO,” the post read.
Guests reportedly watched in shock as the carefully planned proposal collapsed within seconds. Two weeks later, the lady reportedly married another man and blocked his friend on all platforms, severing communication completely.
The painful rejection was only part of the story. Mutual friends later allegedly discovered that she had been dating another man in Abuja for about two years while still in the five-year relationship.
Despite the humiliation, the man said his friend eventually found clarity.
“At first, he was shattered,” he wrote.
