A Nigerian woman has stirred widespread reactions online after sharing why she blocked a man she met at a wedding.
The lady, identified as @maryakpa__n on X (formerly Twitter), explained that after exchanging contacts with the man at the event, they chatted for about two weeks before he asked her out on a date.
According to her, after they agreed on a meeting, the man requested her bank details and sent her ₦2,000 for transportation.
Rather than appreciating the gesture, she said she felt offended by the amount and immediately blocked him.
In her words, she believed the issue was not just the money itself but what she described as his “mindset.”
“We’ve never had any conversation about money. You just calculated it like that. No shame at all. I blocked him immediately. Because that’s not even about the amount, it’s the mindset. This man looks so clean and put together, you won’t expect this kind of thinking.”
Her post quickly went viral, sparking mixed opinions across social media.
Some users criticized her reaction, arguing that any support for transport should have been appreciated, while others debated expectations around dating and financial gestures.
Some reactions included:
Brown Abeeb: “If it were to be 100k or 500k I know she wouldn’t block him.”
Jeffrey: “The day you realize that the population of men are 40 percent 💯that will be the day you will seat tight.”
Osaka JP: “He made mistakes na 200,000 he want to send not 2,000.”
Martonso Suso: “Na me she block like that? Make I dey cry? 😭😆😆😆”
The incident has since fueled ongoing conversations about dating standards, financial expectations, and modern relationship dynamics in Nigeria.
