A Nigerian lady has sparked reactions online after sharing how her interaction with a man she met on TikTok allegedly ended in disappointment after he blocked her immediately after collecting transport fare from her.
According to her narration, the man initially reached out to her through TikTok direct messages and later expressed interest in visiting her.
However, due to safety concerns and rising cases of fraud linked to online relationships, she said she was cautious about meeting him personally. Instead, she insisted that he should visit her home first so her family could meet him before she considered visiting him.
She explained that the man later claimed he lacked transportation money, prompting her to send him ₦5,000 to support his trip.
To her surprise, shortly after receiving the money, he allegedly blocked her on all platforms, cutting off communication completely.
In her words:
“I was on my own when this guy DMed me on TikTok. If I hadn’t replied, they would say I have pride. I told him to come and visit me first so my people can see him. He said he had no transport, so I sent ₦5k. Immediately he got the money, he blocked me everywhere.”
Expressing frustration, she added:
“I don’t even know if it was something else he used on me. If I ever see him, I will make sure I deal with him.”
The story has since generated widespread reactions, with many social media users warning others to be cautious when dealing with people they meet online.
The incident also highlights growing concerns over alleged online dating scams in Nigeria, where victims have reportedly lost money to individuals posing as genuine love interests on platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.
