A woman has reportedly ended her marriage of less than a year following a heated disagreement with her husband over where visiting relatives should sleep — a situation that has since sparked widespread reactions on social media.
According to the account, the issue began when the woman’s father travelled from the village to the city for medical treatment. Due to a lack of an extra mattress in the home, he was asked to sleep on the couch.
However, tensions escalated two days later when the husband allegedly purchased a new mattress — not for his father-in-law, but for a friend’s wife who was visiting to attend a three-day course.
The decision did not sit well with the woman, who felt her father’s comfort should have been prioritised given his health condition.
Speaking on the matter, she said:
“My father came from the village sick and needed comfort, but my husband said there was no mattress for him. Two days later, he bought one for another woman visiting for a course. I told him my father should use it, but he told me to use my money to buy another one, knowing I was not working at the time.”
In response, the husband defended his actions, insisting there was no intention to disrespect his father-in-law.
He explained:
“I did not disrespect her father. I managed the situation based on urgency. My friend’s wife was coming for a course and needed rest, so I bought a mattress. I told my wife to contribute if she wanted something for her dad, but she was not earning then, and we had to prioritise what we could afford.”
The disagreement reportedly worsened and eventually led to the collapse of the marriage.
Reactions from Social Media Users
“This is not about mattress, it’s about priorities. Her father should have come first, especially if he was sick.”
“Why is another man’s wife more important than your own father-in-law? Something is off here.”
“The husband handled it badly, but ending a marriage over this alone feels extreme.”
“Respect for in-laws matters a lot in marriage. This could have been avoided with better communication.”
“If she wasn’t working, telling her to ‘use your money’ is already a problem.”
“Both of them failed — poor planning, poor communication, and ego.”
