Controversial Nursery School Textbook Author Defends Content After Parent Backlash

The author of a controversial nursery school textbook has spoken out after a young mother publicly raised concerns over a disturbing story her 5-year-old child was asked to read in school.

The issue initially gained widespread attention on social media after the mother questioned the appropriateness of the story, arguing that such material could negatively influence a child’s understanding at an early age.

According to the mother, a section of the textbook was deeply troubling, prompting her to voice her concerns publicly. She also alleged that she received threats following her criticism.

Responding to the controversy, the textbook author defended both his work and his reputation, criticizing the mother’s decision to take the matter to social media instead of contacting him directly.

He said:

“I’m not a social media type. The lady didn’t buy the book on social media. My number and address are on the book; she couldn’t reach me through any of those means, but she chose to go to social media to discredit my work and my book.

She’s too small for me to explain to — she was not born when I started teaching. However, there is nothing wrong with my book story.”

The author maintained that the story was suitable for children and argued that his educational material should not be publicly condemned without direct engagement.

His comments have intensified public debate, with many Nigerians expressing mixed reactions over both the textbook’s content and his dismissive tone.

Social Media Reactions

“This response no make sense at all 😒”

“Ego too much for this response. Parents have every right to question school materials.”

“Teaching experience doesn’t automatically mean everything written is right.”

“If parents can’t question what their kids are reading, then who will?”

The controversy continues to spark discussions about educational standards, parental rights, and the kind of content considered appropriate for young children.
