A concerned resident of Bayelsa State has sounded the alarm over a dangerously large pothole on a major road in Nembe, warning that it could soon cause a devastating accident if urgent repairs are not carried out.
Speaking anonymously, the resident described the pothole as extremely deep and wide, noting that it has continued to deteriorate due to prolonged neglect and constant traffic.
According to him, the affected road is an essential route for commuters, increasing the level of danger for both motorists and pedestrians.
“This pothole right in the middle of the road here in Nembe will definitely cause a big accident if nothing is done about it. Just look at the size of this hole — a whole human being like me can stand comfortably inside it,” he lamented.
He further explained that navigating the road has become increasingly hazardous, particularly at night and during heavy rainfall when drivers may struggle to spot the massive crater in time.
The resident appealed to the Bayelsa State Government to take immediate action by repairing the damaged section before it results in loss of lives or costly vehicle damage.
“If any vehicle mistakenly enters this kind of hole, it will lead to a very serious accident. We are calling on the government to fix this road as soon as possible before something terrible happens,” he added.
Residents in several parts of Bayelsa have repeatedly voiced concerns over deteriorating road infrastructure, urging authorities to prioritize maintenance and improve public safety.
Social Media Reactions:
“This is beyond a pothole, this is a swimming pool in the middle of the road.”
“Government will wait until tragedy happens before they remember the road exists.”
“How can people be driving on this kind of road daily? This is pure negligence.”
“Imagine driving there at night without knowing. This is a death trap.”
“Bayelsa roads need urgent attention. Citizens deserve better infrastructure.”
