A young Nigerian woman described the devastating loss of her brother, who suffered a traumatic breakdown after being falsely accused by their neighbor.
The revelation surfaced during discussions on social media regarding the grave repercussions of false accusations, for both actual abuse victims and those wrongfully accused.
The user @mrs_dimplesz wrote on X (formerly Twitter) about how a neighbor had falsely accused her older brother of acting inappropriately toward her daughter, who is nine years old. After the claim was later shown to be untrue, the family experienced violence and long-lasting trauma.
How I lost my brother following false accusations
“My elder brother was beaten to a pulp😤 because our neighbour accused him of sexually assaulting her daughter of 9.
“After much pressure from others because she has earlier confided in another neighbor that her brother was insisting he wants to be bathing her cos she isn’t bathing properly and she felt uncomfortable about it. The neighbour brought up the issue when she got back and heard.
“The accused is my brother who is the most friendly in the compound 😔. The little girl later confessed that it is her brother who has been doing it to her and he said if she mentioned it to anyone, they will kill him and she doesn’t want him to die.
“My father made sure, I n my elder sister beat the woman who accused my brother 2 a pulp as well. We beat her 2 an extent I thought she had died. she landed in the hospital and her husband arrested my dad.
“The issue was resolved but my brother was never d same after d incident😭
False rape accusations should be a crime and punishable. My brother died few years after that incident and even though his death has no connection with the accusation, I blamed it on that situation till date and I haven’t forgotten nor forgiven.”
