Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, a Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, is overjoyed as he completes a mission he set out to complete three years ago.
The talented artist recently enchanted a major Indian city as well as the concert venue where he held the first leg of his highly anticipated ‘Rema Calm Down India Tour.’
Rema shared a throwback video from a 2020 interview in which he expressed his desire to bring Afrobeats to India and leave a lasting impression.
“You see, I want to take Afrobeats to the next level.” I’d like for us to enter the India zone. “How come we can’t shut down India?” he said
Rema was overjoyed to have finally realized his dream of shutting down India after three years of unwavering determination.
He tweeted his appreciation to the country and everyone who believed in him.
“I did it three years later!” Thank you, India, for your overwhelming love, and my heartfelt gratitude to those who BELIEVED.”
Rema’s first electrifying performance took place in Delhi, with shows in Mumbai and Hyderabad scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Rema expressed his love for Indian music and his desire to collaborate with Indian artists in an interview with PTI.
He praised Indian music’s emotional vocals and captivating melodies, stating that he has been playing a lot of it since his arrival in India.
He expressed his admiration for renowned Indian musician AR Rahman in particular.
During his visit, the artist embraced Indian culture, wearing garlands around his neck, a turban, and even a red bindi on his forehead.
Indian dancers performed to his hit song “Calm Down” in their own folk style, demonstrating the Indian audience’s appreciation and enthusiasm.
